Nine Month Old Babys Cries Go Unheard

Julia Castillo showed up to pick up her son at an early learning center in Rhode Island. She wound up frantically beating on the doors and trying to get in because she found the center locked. No one was there and she relied on a nearby neighbor to help her gain access to the center where she found her son in a crib in tears. He had been left alone for over 45 minutes.

Is Your Child Safe Because They Know Better?

In a study by the University of Alabama at Birmingham, researchers found that parents thought their children were less susceptible to hazards which suggested parents thought their children knew better or were less vunerable than other children or toddlers. Less than half of the parents of young children were able to identify potential safety hazards for their children. Worse yet, these parents did far better than the daycare workers themselves!

Lessons from the Mexican Daycare Fire

Sometimes it takes a tragedy to get things done.

Last Friday afternoon, 142 babies, toddlers, and children were watched by six employees of a government-run daycare center, located in a working class neighborhood in Sonora.
