Workers at a daycare center in Louisville, Kentucky, had already reported an incident of abuse before a woman who had dropped off her child had a chance to report it herself. According to a report in WDRB, the woman dropped her child off at the daycare center and saw a daycare worker strike her child as she was leaving. By the time she got back to pick up her child, workers had already reported the incident to Child Protective Services.

The incident involved a daycare worker allegedly slapping the child after he threw a rag at her. According to the report, she put her hand on one side of the child’s face and slapped him on the other. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment and the woman accused of the crime was arrested on a charge of second-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12.

Reporting Abuse

In some cases, workers at a daycare facility will identify abuse and report it to the authorities on their own. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. There have been instances when staff members and administration personnel have known that abuse was going on at a daycare facility and when they failed to report it. In such instances, children may end up being severely abused for a long time before they get any assistance at all from an adult.

Filing a lawsuit against a daycare center under such circumstances is sometimes a sensible move. If the daycare center was guilty of negligence and that caused real harm to your child, you can sue on their behalf and seek compensation. That money can go for treatment for your child and can help with the costs of finding another daycare provider and affording their services.

Daycare abuse is a very real problem. There are measures parents can take to minimize the risk. Most of these have to do with taking a very close look at any facility at which you are considering having your child attend and making sure that it is on the up and up. In some cases, you may be able to identify problems with a daycare facility before your child ends up being the victim of abuse.

If you do see any sort of abuse going on at a daycare facility, it is imperative that you report it immediately. If there is abuse going on, it’s very unlikely that it is an isolated incident that you are seeing.
