Abuse at preschool can happen without any warning. There are some signs that the facility that may be lacking in terms of safety, however, that you should keep an eye out for. In some cases, these signs will be glaringly obvious but, in other cases, you will have to look closely to determine whether or not the preschool facility where you send your child is likely to be one where abuse is perpetrated.

Administration

The administration of the preschool should be absolutely committed to providing a safe environment for the children in their charge. If you get the impression that the administration is more interested in making a buck than serving the needs of parents and children, you may want to look elsewhere. Good preschools are generally run by people who have a love of children and who want to give them a good education and a safe place to get that education.

Staff

The teachers and the assistants at the preschool should all be licensed, qualified and well educated. These are all signs that they understand how to deal with children constructively and how to provide them with boundaries, a good education and plenty of opportunities to enjoy their day at school. Good teachers and good teacher’s assistance can make all the difference for a child and make education very enjoyable. That teacher, however, can make it impossible for a child to learn and may abuse children out right. Keep an eye out for teachers who don’t seem to love working with children. This can be a sign that they’re only interested in getting a paycheck.

Make absolutely certain you ask the preschool whether or not they background check their staff. The only acceptable answer to this question is “yes”. The background check should include criminal checks and checks into their work history so that you can be sure you’re dealing with a solid professional. A good preschool teacher may have worked in many different facilities, but they should have good feedback from all of them.

If a situation manifests at the preschool where the children are abused, you may want to contact a preschool abuse lawyer after it has been put to an end. One of these lawyers can work with you to determine whether or not you have a chance of winning a lawsuit were you to file one and may want to take your case and represent you and your family in court.
